On August 21st, 2016, Can Tho University (CTU) held a signing ceremony of memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Saga University, Japan. Attending the ceremony were the representatives of Rectorate Board and leaders of units of the two universities.

Representing CTU’s side, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector sent warm greeting to the delegation of Saga University visiting and signing a memorandum of understanding. At the same time, the Rector briefly informed the delegates about CTU.

Founded in 1966, located in the heart of the Mekong Delta region, CTU is one of the key multidisciplinary universities of the country. Its main missions are not only to train human resources for the Mekong Delta region and the country also to be the center of scientific research, technology transfer of the region. The University offers 96 undergraduate, 40 master’s and 16 doctoral training programs for over 52,000 students. The number of staff is about 2,000. Every year, CTU welcomed over 300 international delegations visiting and working and signed over 200 memoranda of understanding with partners all over the world of which about 15% come from Japan.

Saga University has 6 faculties with a total of 7,000 students. There are about 1,700 staff members. The relationship between CTU and Saga began in 2008, when many students of CTU’s College of Agriculture studied at Saga. In 2015, Saga University has signed a memorandum of agreement with College of Rural Development of the CTU and sent its students to this College for studying. Besides, CTU sent many staff members to study doctoral and post-doctorate programs at the University of Saga. Those activities have been highly benefited human resources training and enhanced mutual understanding between the two universities.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan stressed "CTU appreciates the cooperation relationship with Saga University and is glad about the cooperation to be extended to the faculties of the two universities through this MOU signing". CTU’s Rector also shared information about ODA project, with the support of the Japanese Government to upgrade CTU to become outstanding, internationally recognized higher education institution, that CTU is implementing will contribute to promoting the closer cooperation relations between CTU and Japanese partners in general and Saga University in particular.
